This policy is part of the Marku Membership Terms. Apart from the cases listed below and refunds the law requires, fees paid are non-refundable.
When you can get a refund
| Situation | What we do |
|---|---|
| Within 7 days of a charge, and you have not used any of that period's weekly allowance since the payment | We stop the subscription and refund that period |
| You were charged twice or charged the wrong amount, as confirmed by us | We refund the extra or incorrect amount |
| We terminate your paid plan for a reason other than your breach of the Membership Terms or the law, or a payment dispute | We refund the paid but unprovided part of the period, pro rata by day |
- "Within 7 days of a charge" counts from the moment each charge succeeds; an extra amount charged when you upgrade counts from that charge.
- Whether you have used your weekly allowance is based on that period's usage shown in "My allowance". For example, unlocking a paid chapter with your allowance counts as use.
When we do not refund
- Anything not listed in the table above is not refunded, including when you have used any of the period's weekly allowance, when more than 7 days have passed since the charge, when you cancel, downgrade or delete your account yourself, when we suspend or terminate because you breached the Membership Terms or the law, and when a payment is disputed.
- The weekly allowance and Bricks cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash.
How to request a refund
- In your member center on the Marku platform, go to "My subscription", choose the period and press "Request a refund". If you qualify, the refund is sent right away; if not, the screen tells you why.
- You can also email [email protected] from the email address of your Marku account and tell us which period you want refunded (the date and amount of the charge).
- If you were charged twice or charged the wrong amount, please email us.
Where the money goes
- We refund to your original payment method: card payments go back to the same card, and PayPal payments to your PayPal account. When the money appears depends on your card issuer and PayPal.
- After a refund, your plan for that period ends immediately and your account moves to the Free plan.
- For payments in New Taiwan dollars, we void that period's electronic invoice or issue a credit note.
Your consent before payment
The law where you live may let you cancel a contract or withdraw from a purchase within a certain period after buying, for example 7 days under Article 19 of Taiwan's Consumer Protection Act. That period may not apply to digital content not supplied on a tangible medium, or to online services that are completed once provided, when you have agreed in advance to their being provided (Article 2, item 5 of Taiwan's regulation on reasonable exceptions to the cancellation right in distance sales, 通訊交易解除權合理例外情事適用準則). A paid Marku plan starts immediately after payment, and each use of your weekly allowance is a part of the service that is then fully provided. So before you pay, we ask for your consent as follows:
- When you press "Subscribe" on the plans page, you first see a confirmation screen showing the plan, the monthly price, the billing date, the monthly automatic renewal, and the cancellation and refund rules, with links to the full Membership Terms and this Refund Policy.
- The confirmation screen has a consent box that is not ticked in advance: "I have read and agree to the Membership Terms and the Refund Policy. I agree that my plan renews automatically every month and is charged at the plan's price each period until I cancel. I ask for my plan to start immediately after payment, and I understand that once I use any of this period's weekly allowance, I give up any right to cancel or withdraw that the law where I live may give me (for example, 7 days in Taiwan, or 14 days in the EU and the UK), and this period's fee will not be refunded."
- Only after you tick the box can you press "Continue to payment", which takes you to the NewebPay or PayPal payment page.
- We record when you agreed and the effective dates of the Membership Terms and Refund Policy you agreed to.
Disputing a charge with your bank or PayPal
If you open a dispute with your card issuer or PayPal, we may withdraw your plan benefits for that period, suspend or terminate your account, and give the bank or PayPal our records of the charge and your usage. If the dispute fails (for example, because you did authorise the charge), the costs it causes are yours to bear under "Your indemnity" in the Membership Terms. If you have a refund question, please email us first.
